Day 2: Shanghai

Day 3: Shanghai
Explore China's "city of the future" with a walk along the Bund and a stroll through Yu Garden, a 16th-century Ming period private garden/residence. After lunch, visit the Shanghai Museum, home to some of the finest Chinese art in the world, and the Urban Planning Museum. Tonight, join fellow travellers at a welcome dinner. Day 4: Shanghai/Lijiang
Fly to Lijiang, the gateway to the wonders of Yunnan, China's mountainous southwestern province. After settling in to your resort, embark on a walking tour of Lijiang's historic Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that retains the architecture and symbolic designs of both Han and Naxi traditions. Day 5: Lijiang
The Naxi are one of China's 56 officially recognized ethnic groups, a people inhabiting the Himalayan foothills. Explore two Naxi villages: Baisha, the first capital of the Naxi Kingdom, and Longquan, a tranquil community that lends perfect insight into a China almost forgotten. After lunch, visit the Heilongtan (Black Dragon Pool Park) and the Dongha Museum that showcases Naxi religious traditions. This evening, attend a traditional Naxi dance and musical performance. Day 6: Lijiang/Ringha
Drive along the great Yunnan/Tibet Highway, stopping at the charming village of Shigu (Stone Drum) that sits above the historic First Bend in the Yangzi River and the stunning Tiger Leaping Gorge. Day 7: Ringha/Zhongdian/Ringha
Drive to Zhongdian, considered the seat of Tibetan culture in Yunnan. Visit Songzangling Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan and home to the Living Buddha. Also explore the Central Market, held daily in the heart of the new city and a wonderful place to buy everything from local clothes to jewelry. Back in Ringha, hike to the summit of the sacred hill of Ringha (Dabaosi), believed to be a source of religious power. All Tibetans in Yunnan must take a pilgrimage to this hill before going to Lhasa. Then visit with a local farming family before joining the locals for singing and dancing in Old Town. Day 8: Ringha/Lhasa

Days 9-10: Lhasa
Spend two full days exploring fascinating Lhasa. Visit the seventhcentury former home of the Dalai Lama, the Potala Palace — the crowning glory of Lhasa. Its towering red and white edifice with a gold roof rises 985 feet above the valley floor and can be seen for miles around. Explore Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of the country, as well as the 15th-century Sera, one of Tibet's six great monasteries. Head to Norbulingka, the former summer residence of the Dalai Lamas, located on the outskirts of town and filled with gardens, palaces and pavilions. Then visit the Tibetan Museum, a complex of buildings that includes the Storehouse for Cultural Relics, home to thangkas (Tibetan scrolls) and gilded copper and bronze Buddhist statues.
