Itinerary
Days 1-2 Colonial Hanoi Walk and cyclo through colonial Hanoi, seeing the old and the newer sites. Dine within lovingly restored colonial villas and one evening attend a performance of traditional Vietnamese water puppetry. Sofitel Metropole Hotel
Day 3 Halong Bay, Natural Wonder Cruise hidden Halong Bay, where hundreds of craggy limestone formations rise dramatically from smooth emerald waters. Lunch and dinner on board. Overnight on either a Private Junk or the Emeraude Classic.
Day 4 Return to Hanoi Return to Hanoi and an afternoon of leisure in the city, perhaps back to the Old Quarter to shop for silks, lacquer ware, embroidery and ethnic minority products. This evening, you are guests for dinner in the Old Quarter at Mme. Anh Tuyet’s house. Sofitel Metropole Hotel
Day 5 Hue, Vietnam’s Royal Past Revealed Fly to Hue, the former royal city of the 13 ruling Nguyen dynasties. Visit the Imperial Citadel, dating back to the 18th century. Cruise down the Perfume River to see the Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the area’s oldest architectural structures for religious worship. La Residence Hotel & Spa
Day 6 Coastal City of Danang After exploring the royal tombs of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh, travel over breathtaking Hai Van pass to Danang. Visit the Cham Museum and the Marble Mountains with their beautiful grottoes and temples. Afterwards transfer to your stunning beach resort. Nam Hai
Days 7-8 Hoi An, Ancient Trading Center Hoi An was a major 16th century trading center with a distinctive Chinese flavor to it. Take a scenic bike ride past rice fields down to a local house and try your hand at making one of the famous lanterns of the region. On foot, visit historic merchant and community houses, places of worship and famous bridges. Return to Danang, enjoying a whole day of leisure at your resort. Nam Hai
Day 9-11 Ho Chi Minh City, Pearl of the Far East This exciting city (formerly Saigon), is filled with wide boulevards and stately trees. Visit main historic sites as well as the pulsating Ben Thanh Market. Investigate the incredible Cu Chi Tunnels and dine in a colonial French villa. Experience the lively floating market at Cai Be, rice fields, fruit orchards, stilt houses and bamboo bridges. Try traditional soup called “pho” for breakfast as well as Vietnamese coffee.
