Enjoy the full breadth of Vietnam, from the lesser-travelled, steep peaks and terraced rice fields of the north villages where the Dzay and Black H'mong people live, to Hanoi, the bustling political center. Visit Ho Chi Minh City, a city that still reflects its French colonial character and its religious ties to Buddhism. End with a relaxing few days at a resort on in the coastal town of Phan Thiet.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Hanoi and settle in to your hotel. This evening, attend a traditional water puppetry performance.
Day 2
Take in the essential sights: Ho Chi Minh's house, the One Pillared Pagoda and the Confucian Temple of Literature. Enjoy a cyclo ride through the old quarter. Later, board an overnight train to Lao Cai.
Day 3
Transfer overland to the remote and mountainous region of Sapa and your hotel. Embark on a trek along buffalo paths, trails covered with terraced rice fields and through several hill-tribe villages, home to Black H'mong and Dzay people.
Day 4
Bargain with the locals at the Can Cau Saturday Market and then trek to Ban Pho village.
Day 5
Arrive in Hanoi and then travel by private car to Ha Long Bay. Enjoy a private cruise along this beautiful coast.
Day 6
Fly to Ho Chi Minh City, a beautiful mélange of French colonial and Southeast Asian influences. Visit the Thien Hau Pagoda, the most important pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City, where prayers are offered both to Buddha and the Chinese deity Thien Hau Thanh Mau.
Day 7
Explore the tunnel network at Cu Chi, one of the most notorious battlefields of the Vietnam War. After lunch, tour the Presidential Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Days 8-10
Journey east to Phan Thiet, where you have three full days at leisure. Overlooking the South China Sea, this coastal town is home to stunning beaches, tropical forest, Sahara-like sand dunes, a beautiful harbor, ancient Cham buildings and one of Vietnam's finest golf courses. The coastal area surrounding Phan Thiet is dotted with quaint seaside villages and rural markets that you can explore and is an important fishing area. Just north, the villages give way to Cape Mui Ne's sprawling red sand dunes, offering great views of the town and countryside.
Day 11
Transfer to Ho Chi Minh City to connect to your homebound flight.
