Day 1. Sydney to Canberra. Depart Sydney and journey to Australia’s capital city, Canberra. Our first stop is Regatta Point followed by the National Capital Exhibition. Day 2. . Canberra to Mildura. Travel west to Hay to see the legends of Australia’s colourful shearers at Shear Outback. Continue on through Balranald, the oldest settlement on the Lower Murrumbidgee River on your way to Mildura. Mildura Grand Hotel BD
Day 3. Barossa Valley to Adelaide. This morning we cross the border into South Australia, travelling through Renmark and on to the Barossa Valley. Taste the local wines and enjoy a light lunch at Jacobs Creek Visitor Centre. Arrive in Adelaide this afternoon. Sebel Playford Hotel BL
Day 4. Flinders Ranges National Park. Visit Montefiore Hill and Lights Vision for amazing views over Adelaide. Continue north to the township of Clare and then on to Wilpena Pound. See spectacular views over the Pound from Wangarra Lookout. Wilpena Pound Resort BD
Day 5. Oodnadatta Track to Coober Pedy. Today we leave the tourist trail to explore the real outback. Marvel at the red walls of Parachilna Gorge and travel along the famous Oodnadatta Track, viewing Lake Eyre South. Pause at William Creek before arriving at Coober Pedy. This afternoon a local guide will introduce you to the region. Visit an underground church, Umoona Opal Mine and Museum, an underground house, an opal cutting demonstration and go into the Opal Mine. Day 6. Coober Pedy to Ayers Rock. This morning pass through harsh desolate landscape on your way to Erldunda where we will stop with time for lunch. Pass Mt Conner before arriving at the world famous monolith known as Ayers Rock or Uluru. Desert Gardens (2 nights) B
Day 7. Ayers Rock. “Free Choice”. Choose from watching the sunrise over Ayers Rock followed by breakfast and a guided walk, enjoy a Harley Davidson motorcycle ride, tour around Ayers Rock then experience a camel ride through the desert; join a naturalist for a 9km walk around the base of Ayers Rock. Must be booked before departure. This afternoon travel to the 36 rounded domes of the Olgas (Kata Tjuta) located in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Tonight, experience unique dining at the award-winning Sounds of Silence dinner (included). BD
Day 8. Watarrka National Park to Kings Canyon. Travel to Kings Creek Station and on to Watarrka National Park. At Kings Canyon walk to the rim of the canyon or stroll along the canyon floor. Day 9. Telegraph Station to Alice Springs. Day 10. Alice Springs. “Free Choice”. Choose from a hop on - hop off sightseeing tour; guided walk to see the magnificent Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap; travel to Palm Valley – the oasis in the desert; visit an outback cattle station; learn about the traditions of indigenous Australians on a Desert Discovery Tour; tour an outback cattle station. Day 12. Mataranka to Katherine. This morning visit a working Cattle Station and discover more about remote outback life. Continue to Daly Waters Pub where we'll “shout” you a beer (or soft drink) and meat pie! Continue north to Mataranka and visit the Elsey Homestead replica, erected for the famous film 'We of the Never Never' and view the famous thermal pool. All Seasons Hotel BLD
Day 13. Kakadu National Park. Enjoy a guided cruise through Katherine Gorge. Continue north and enter the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park to visit Nourlangie Rock and see Aboriginal rock art. Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn (2 nights) BD
Day 14. Yellow Waters Cruise. Cruise the Yellow Waters billabong where you may encounter brolgas, jabiru or crocodiles basking on the bank! BD Opportunity this afternoon for a scenic flight over Kakadu (own expense).
Day 15. Litchfield National Park to Darwin. Travel to Litchfield National Park and see Florence and Wangi Falls. Travel to Darwin for a brief sightseeing tour. Tonight enjoy a sunset dinner cruise on Darwin Harbour. Crowne Plaza Hotel (2 nights) BD
Day 16. Darwin. “Free Choice”. Choose from a visit the Territory Wildlife Park; cruise on the Adelaide River and see the Jumping Crocodiles; explore Darwin City sights on the Tour Tub. B
Day 17. Darwin to Cairns. Transfer to the airport for your morning flight (approx 6am) to Cairns (own expense, please book before departure). On arrival, transfer to your hotel. This evening enjoy dinner and a performance at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Cairns Hilton (2 nights) BD
Day 18. Cairns. “Free Choice”. Choose from a Catamaran trip to Agincourt Reef to snorkel and view magnificent coral and sea life; spectacular scenic hot air balloon flight; discover the world of crocodiles at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures; enjoy a cruise to Frankland Island; visit tropical fruit farms on the Food Trail Tour. Day 19. Kuranda Scenic Railway – Cape Tribulation. Experience a spectacular rail journey aboard the famous Kuranda Train. Travel from the coastal sugar fields high into the Atherton Tablelands to the picturesque township of Kuranda. Return aboard the Skyrail gondola, the longest gondola cableway in the world. Rejoin the coach for the journey north via Captain Cook Highway, considered to be one of the most scenic coastal drives in Australia, to Cape Tribulation. Coconut Beach Rainforest Lodge (2 nights) BD
Day 20. Cape Tribulation. “Free Choice”. Choose from a 4WD tour to explore the spectacular scenery and unique ecology of Cape Tribulation; guided nocturnal walk to meet the shy night creatures of the rainforest by torchlight; guided walk through rainforest mangrove; plant a Rainforest Tree and help with the rainforest regeneration process. Day 21. Port Douglas to Mission Beach. Travel to the seaside town of Port Douglas and enjoy some free time strolling among the village shops and galleries. Continue via the Atherton Tablelands. Visit the amazing Curtain Fig Tree and the picture perfect Millaa Millaa Falls. Continue to Mission Beach where exquisite rainforest meets golden beachfront. Some time at leisure. Day 22. Townsville to Daydream Island. Travel south via the coastal Bruce Highway to Townsville, the heart of the tropics. “Free Choice”. Choose from a visit to the world class Museum of Tropical Queensland; visit Reef HQ, the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium. Continue to Airlie Beach and board your vessel for a short cruise to Daydream Island which is often described as the jewel of the Whitsundays. Day 23. Daydream Island. Nestled in the heart of the Whitsundays and fringed by the inviting turquoise waters of the Coral Sea in the South Pacific Ocean, Daydream Island is one of the most well known of the 70 sub-tropical islands, most of which are uninhabited. “Free Choice”. Day 24. Daydream Island to Rockhampton. Day 25. Cattle Station to Fraser Island. Visit historic Langmorn Station for a home-hosted morning tea and a true taste of life on a real Aussie outback cattle station. Day 26. Fraser Island – 4WD Tour. For the early risers, enjoy a ranger-escorted bird watching walk before breakfast.
