Itinerary
Day 1: Darwin/Cobourg Peninsula From Darwin, fly over an area of about a quarter of a million acres of pristine wilderness that is part of the Aboriginal homeland –Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. Arrive at Seven Spirit Bay, in Garig Gunak Barlu National Park on the Cobourg Peninsula. Savor a memorable day in one of Australia’s most remote and restricted regions. Entry is by permit only. The area is noteworthy for its prehistoric rock art sites at Mt. Borradaile. Your guide is Max Davidson, one of the Northern Territory’s most experienced guides and respected modern–day explorers. In fact, Max re-discovered Mt. Borradaile in the early 1980’s. After extensive negotiations with the land’s Aboriginal owners, he received a special permit to operate an exclusive guided tour into this amazing and unique wilderness. Peppers Seven Spirit Bay (D) Day 2: Garig Gunak Barlu National Park & Cobourg Marine Park After a leisurely breakfast, you set out by boat to discover the waters of Cobourg Marine Park in Garig Gunak Barlu National Park. Multitudes of fish inhabit the shallow coastal waters. Remote and rugged, Cobourg Peninsula is fringed with magnificent white sand beaches perfect for hiking, bird watching, fishing and boating. Come upon deserted islands and cruise along sandy beaches for a waterline perspective on the wildlife. Stop ashore and walk the deserted beach. This superb location is a great place to relax with a glass of champagne and hors d’oeuvres while enjoying a magnificent ‘Top End’ sunset. Peppers Seven Spirit Bay (B,L,D)
Day 3: Cobourg Peninsula / Kununurra Depart the Top End of Australia for the small town of Kununurra. From here, you pick up your own four-wheel-drive vehicle and head to El Questro Homestead. The lodge is an exclusive retreat cantilevered over the magnificent Chamberlain River. Enjoy absolute luxury and pampering while taking in the rugged Kimberley landscape. El Questro Homestead (B,L,D)
Day 4: East Kimberley Your four-wheel-drive vehicle gives you the freedom and flexibility to encounter this wilderness park at your leisure. You may want to join an El Questro ranger for an early morning drive and walk to learn about the endemic wildlife such as dancing brolgas or colorful rainbow bee-eaters. In the afternoon, a boat ride takes you into the Chamberlain Gorge, which is reachable only by water. The waterhole supports diverse flora and fauna, and dwarfed by a towering escarpment. Enjoy champagne as you take in the breathtaking scenery. El Questro Homestead (B,L,D) Day 5: Kimberley’s/Uluru Early this morning, you depart the rugged Kimberley Mountains to travel to the luxurious, eco-sensitive and very romantic Longitude 131 in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. You enjoy private views of famed Uluru/Ayers Rock, complete with five-star luxury. At Table 131, a sumptuous outback feast awaits you under the southern night sky. During this special evening, members of a local Aboriginal tribe, the Anangu, tell stories of their mythology about the stars and their meanings and origins. Longitude 131 (B,L,D) Day 6: Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) This morning, set out for Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, which consist of 36 majestic rock domes. Photo opportunities abound as your local guide explains the ecology, fire management, and flora and fauna of the area. He also explains how this came to be a scared site for the Indigenous people. Continue to Walpa Gorge, where you learn about the natural history and geology of the region in-depth great detail as well as how these discoveries were made. After lunch, visit Mulgara Gallery to see authentic Aboriginal art and meet the artist in residence. You have some free time to wander town center before returning to Longitude 131 for another majestic sunset. Longitude 131 (B,L,D)
Day 7: After breakfast, you transfer to Ayers Rock airport for your onward flight (B)
