Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park Type: Attraction Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park is a World Heritage listed area. Located 155 kilometres west of Launceston, it is a vast alpine region with summer wildflowers.
Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair is administered in two sections with rangers located at Cradle Mountain and at Cynthia Bay near Derwent Bridge. Food and petrol supplies and accommodation are available at the northern park entrance, two kilometres from the camping grounds at Cradle Mountain.
There are a number of huts with gas stoves, cooking utensils and mattresses. Light is supplied to all the huts. Amenities blocks include hot showers and toilets. A picnic area with barbecues, toilets, a day-use hut, kiosk, boat ramp and boat service is located at Cynthia Bay. Overnight huts are also available with beds, heating and tap water. In season, licensed trout fishing is permitted in the lakes and rivers. Private boats may be used for fishing or scenic trips. Swimming is permitted but as the lakes are fed by mountain streams they are always cold.
