Day 1 - Depart home
Day 2 – Berlin
Arrive in Berlin in the late morning and take a drive to view the major sights of this stunning German capital. Drive through the eastern and the western centres of Berlin, along the famous promenades Kurfurstendamm and Unter den Linden. See the famous KaDeWe department store, Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz, as well as the Cathedral, the Pergamon Museum and Charlottenburg Castle. The tour will end at your hotel where you can enjoy some time at leisure before joining your fellow travelers at a welcome reception and dinner.

Day 3 – Berlin
Take a leisurely cruise on the Spree River, which flows along the outskirts of Berlin. Continue on to nearby Potsdam to visit Sanssouci Palace. This palace was built for Prussian emperor Frederick II as his summer retreat. The real showpiece of Sanssouci is the park. Wander through a series of beautifully landscaped gardens, including the Sizilianischer Garten (Sicilian Garden), which is filled with subtropical plants. A series of fountains and terraces leads to other structures within the park, such as the Neue Orangerie (New Orangery) and the Bildergalerie (Picture Gallery), which holds paintings by Renaissance artists, including Caravaggio, Rubens and Van Dyck. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 4 – Prague
Travel south into the region of Saxony, to visit the magnificently restored city of Dresden. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The bombing of Dresden in World War II by the British Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces, plus 40 years in the Soviet bloc state of the German Democratic Republic, changed the face of the city broadly. Continue south and cross into the Czech Republic to the city of Prague.

Day 5 – Prague
Situated on the River Vltava in central Bohemia, Prague has been the political, cultural, and economic centre of the Czech state for over 1100 years. Take in the city sights on a tour that will drive past the State Opera, National Museum and Wenceslas Square with its statue of St. Wenceslas. Continue across Charles Square to the banks of the River Vltava to Charles Bridge, the Rudolfinum and across the river to Prague Castle. Stroll around the castle courtyards, where you will see St. Vitus Cathedral, the Royal Palace and Golden Lane. Then drive across the River Vltava to the Old Town, passing through the former Jewish Quarter. In the Old Town Square you will see St. Nicholas Church, the Tyn Cathedral and the Old Town Hall with its astronomical clock and 12 apostles. After lunch leave the city and drive south to visit Karlštejn, one of the most famous Gothic castles in the Czech Republic.

Day 6 – Vienna
Leave Prague today and drive south for a short guided walk in the medieval town of Telc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was founded in the mid-14th century. After lunch cross into Austria and arrive in Vienna by mid-afternoon. Enjoy time at leisure before dinner.

Day 7 – Vienna
Explore the many charms of Vienna today including a visit to the famous Schonbrunn Palace, summer residence of the Hapsburgs and Maria Theresa, mother of Marie Antoinette. In the afternoon explore the beautiful sights surrounding the southern part of the Vienna Woods. Pass the Roman City of Baden, famed for its thermal springs, as you travel through the romantic valley of Helenental, site of the former Mayerling hunting lodge. Now a commemorative chapel, this was once the place where Crown Prince Rudolph, the only son of Emperor Franz Joseph, committed suicide with Baronesse Vetsera in 1889. In the 12th-century Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz you will visit the medieval cloister which houses the remains of the last Babenberger. Keep an eye out as you drive by the Holdrichsmuhle where Franz Schubert composed his song ‘The Linden Tree’. Return to Vienna in the late afternoon.

Day 8 – Salzburg
Leave Vienna today and travel west to the city of Salzburg, which with its world famous baroque architecture, is one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. En route visit the Wachau region and Melk Abbey, an Austrian Benedictine abbey, and one of the world’s most famous monastic sites. The abbey was founded in 1089 when Leopold II, Margrave of Austria gave one of his castles to Benedictine monks from Lambach Abbey. Enjoy a relaxing cruise on the famed River Danube before a late afternoon arrival in Salzburg.

Day 9 – Salzburg
Explore the city of Salzburg and visit the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the afternoon continue to the famous Salzkammergut area, well known for its alpine lakes and mountains, and picturesque villages such as St Gilgen and St Wolfgang. The name Salzkammergut means “Estate of the Salt Chamber” and derives from the Imperial Salt Chamber, the authority charged with running the precious salt mines in the Habsburg Empire.

Day 10 – Oberammergau
Leave Salzburg today and drive to Oberammergau. En route visit the charming Austrian mountain town of Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol region. See the cathedral, the Golden Roof, the Ottoburg and the City tower. Travel onward to our final destination, the Bavarian village of Bad Kohlgrub which will be our base for the Oberammergau Passion Play tomorrow.

Day 11 – Oberammergau
Enjoy your morning at leisure before transferring to the nearby village of Oberammergau. The Passion Play is performed this afternoon and evening with a break for dinner. After the play, transfer back to your hotel.

Day 12– Zurich
After being immersed in Bavarian village life move on to Switzerland and the city of Zurich, Switzerland’s main commercial and cultural centre and the “Cultural Capital of Switzerland”. Take a mid morning stop at Neuschwanstein Castle, a 19th-century Bavarian palace on a rugged hill near Hohenschwangau and Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. Then travel onward to Zurich in the afternoon.

Day 13– Zurich
Spend the morning viewing the major sights of Zurich, most of which lie within the compact area either side of the River Limmat, between the Hauptbahnhof and Lake Zürich. The churches and burgher houses of the Old Town are clustered here, as are the elegant shops along Bahnhofstrasse. The Baroque Rathaus (Town Hall) and Zürich’s most impressive churches – the Grossmünster, Fraumünster and the city’s oldest, St Peterskirche (its clock face is the largest in Europe) – all lie within a short distance of the River Limmat. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before a farewell reception and dinner.
