Day 4: Budapest/Vienna

Day 5: Vienna
Vienna is almost unchanged since its Day as capital of the Austrian Empire, miraculously maintaining its old-world elegance and charm while remaining a thriving center of politics and culture. Marvel at the soaring majesty of St. Stephen's Cathedral and the glittering collection of objets d'art in the Imperial Treasury within the Hofburg Palace, historic seat of the emperors and their governments. After lunch, visit the impressive summer palace of the Hapsburgs, magnificent Schönbrunn Palace. It was here amid frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers and gilded ornaments that the five-year-old Mozart played to the court. Later, you may want to attend a performance at the famous Opera House. This morning a guest speaker discusses the Czech Republic's recent history. Stroll through the Old Town to visit the main square. Pause to admire the three vertical disks of the 15th-century astronomical clock that adorns the façade of the Gothic Town Hall. Continue to explore the Jewish Quarter. Drive to Castle Hill for a visit to the Strahov Monastery, a Baroque architectural jewel.
