 Iceland is a wonderland of lava formations, geysers and waterfalls. Capital city Reykjavik is surrounded by vast natural areas offering all kinds of outdoor activities: enjoy off-road driving in a geothermal area and swim in hot springs. See the cascades at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and explore "Thor's Woods" with its glacial lagoons.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1:
You are met at the airport and transferred to the Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal spa surrounded by a lava field and black sandy beaches where you can pause for a swim in the warm water. Afterward, transfer to the Hotel Borg.
Day 2:
Venture out into the countryside to Thingvellir, the site of the original Althing, considered the oldest democratic parliament in the world. Noted for its spectacular lava formations, the area is the only place in the world to see the tectonic plates drift apart. Then see Geyser, which gave its name to all other erupting hot springs, and observe the active Strokkur geyser that spouts up to 90 feet in the air. Conclude the Day with a stop at the Gullfoss waterfall.
Day 3: Reykjavik
After a city tour of Reykjavik, visit Skogafoss waterfalls. If time permits, explore the turf-covered buildings of the Skogar Museum for a glimpse of life in Iceland in past times.
Day 4:
 Tour the highlands, which includes off-road driving in a Super-Jeep in Landmannalauger geothermal area. The landscape has no vegetation, only brightly colored sand and mountains, giving the surroundings a moon-like ambience. This afternoon swim in a natural pool and hike over the lava.
Day 5:
Stop to see the beautiful cascades at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Continue to Thorsmork, an enclave surrounded on three sides by spectacular glaciers and only accessible by 4x4 vehicle. Also known as "Thor's Woods," this nature reserve has a multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover. Observe some of the 170 plants, moss and lichen species in this lush area. Watch as outlet glaciers tumble and crawl down into the gullies, some of them ending in spectacular glacial lagoons.
Day 6:
Transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
