Your guide introduces you to Madrid's history and "must-see" sights. In the Castile region, visit fairy tale Alcázar Castle in Segovia. Follow a portion of the 1,000-year-old pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela. Enjoy wine tastings in Haro, capital of the Rioja wine region, and wander through the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Days 1-4: Madrid

On arrival in Madrid you are met and transferred to the prestigious Hotel Ritz Madrid for a three-night stay. Explore Madrid's highlights, including the Royal Palace and the amazing Prado Museum. Enjoy a flamenco evening at Casa Patas, one of Spain's most famous venues. A full Day's excursion to the Castile region takes you to El Escorial, the vast Royal Monastery built by King Philip II; the walled city of Ávila and Segovia, home of the fairy tale Alcázar castle. You may have the chance to sample some of Segovia's gastronomic specialties, including roast baby lamb and suckling pig.

Days 4-5: Haro

Discover the mystic world of the great pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, known as the Way of St. James. Pilgrims have walked this route for more than 1,000 years to the site where the remains of St. James are buried. Stop in the Romanesque monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, known for the Gregorian chanting of its monks. Continue to Burgos to see the great Gothic cathedral and follow the Pilgrim Road to Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Then arrive in the Rioja wine region's capital, Haro, and check in to Hotel Los Agustinos. Explore the Rioja region and its impressive vineyards. Later, dine in one of Haro's charming restaurants.

Days 6.7: San Sebastian

Journey into Basque country to Vitoria. Cross the lush, rolling countryside to San Sebastián, the gastronomic capital of Spain for more than 100 years. Stroll through the delightful old town, teeming with quaint bars and restaurants. Pass the magnificent horseshoe bay of La Concha to see the Comb of the Winds, a massive iron sculpture set into the side of a dramatic cliff. Spend two nights at the elegant Hotel María Cristina. Explore the city on your own or take an excursion to the nearby French Basque region.

Days 8: Bilbao

Drive the short distance to Bilbao, home of architect Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum. After exploring the museum with your specialist guide, check in to the modern Gran Hotel Domine across the street.

Day 9: Bilbao

Transfer to the Bilbao airport for your departure flight home.
