Start with three nights at the elegant Four Seasons Hotel and tour the city's main highlights before flying to Cappadocia for a two-night stay. The region is a stunning example of the interplay between natural and human forces. Trade passing through the region encouraged the settlement of many communities, particularly early Christians, who carved churches into the soft hills and decorated them with wall paintings. Visit the underground cities of Kaymakli and Derinkuyu and the villages of Goreme and Uchisar, surrounded by rock-hewn churches. Also visit the carpet and pottery workshops in the region: many artisans work in Cappadocia, inspired by the region's history and natural beauty. Travel to Izmir, then on to Ephesus, the magnificently restored ancient Ionian city. Also tour surrounding attractions such as the town of Selcuk, with its lovely mosque, St John's Basilica, the Ephesus Museum, and the Temple of Artemis. Continue to Antalya, the southern Mediterranean city offering sublime beach resorts and excellent museums. Return to Istanbul for leisure time in the city.
