Bayreuth Art & culture The Richard Wagner Festival has been the highlight of Bayreuth's cultural scene for more than 125 years. The Festival Hall is worthy of a visit even outside festival times. The Bayreuth Art Museum and Iwalewa Museum of African Art contain fascinating exhibits and there are numerous music and drama festivals offering the highest calibre of cultural entertainment.Festival Hall Venue of the renowned Richard Wagner Festival on Green Hill. With its unique architecture and acoustics, the Bayreuth Festival Hall is one of the world's largest opera houses. Iwalewa House – The Africa Centre of Bayreuth University As well as being a centre for education and research, the Africa Centre is also a museum, presenting art and culture from third-world countries to a wider public. Its programme ranges from exhibitions – focusing on contemporary African art – and concerts to readings, lectures and workshops. Bayreuth Art Museum Following the restoration of the Old Town Hall at the heart of the historical town centre, Bayreuth now has a new Art Museum which also houses the British American Tobacco (B.A.T.) Tobacco Museum. There are several exhibitions each year, with exhibits loaned from the collections of various institutes. The focus is on 20th century printed works. |
