 The surrounding region has a lot to offer too, with nature, history, technology and much more besides.
Romanesque Route
The Romanesque Route runs through the whole of Saxony-Anhalt. Castles, cathedrals, abbeys and churches dating from the 10th to the 13th centuries serve as reminders of the conversion to Christianity. You can take a day trip along the route to various abbeys and churches from the Romanesque period or to Hadmersleben and the abbeys of Göningen and Huysburg, where Benedictine monks still reside today.
Pechau
Pechau on the River Elbe is an idyllic part of Magdeburg. Situated in the Elbe meadows, the village is surrounded by the charming, unspoilt countryside of the Middle Elbe biosphere reserve.
Magdeburg Börde
The region around Magdeburg is not only steeped in history, it is also one of the most fertile areas in Germany thanks to a thick covering of loess. Important crops such as wheat and beet do exceptionally well here in the rich black earth of the Börde. From this area of marshland enclosed by the Elbe, Saale and Bode rivers, the Mittelland Canal and Harz foothills, you can enjoy views that stretch for miles and miles.
