As a semi-autonomous region of Spain, Catalonia clearly has its own sense of identity. The Renaissance of the regional culture – a blend of French and Spanish influences – can be largely credited to the movement toward reclaiming the regional dialect, Catalan, which was outlawed under the dictatorship of Franco. We are free to explore the Catalonian sense of identity – in the food, wine, art and landscapes – as the Catalonians are eager to share it with us.
