"Sculptural" and "dramatic" are words that spring to mind when one tries to describe Can Maia. Set in a pastoral glade framed by the Pyrénées, it is a bold juxtaposition of contemporary design and the traditional character of an old family farmhouse.

The centerpiece of the house is the new kitchen wing, a bright open-plan which demonstrates the owner's creative flair with its imaginative (and effective!) use of hanging automotive lights, while the latest appliances and equipment are a cook's delight.

The exciting contrast between the kitchen wing and the original farmhouse is highlighted by a glass passageway (“the Looking Glass”) that connects the two sections and provides glimpses of the original exterior walls - made of unusual pointed stone blocks that emphasize the rustic character of the main house. The entire ground floor of the main house is a generous living room with high ceilings and a central fireplace. On the upper floor, the bedrooms are simple and share bathrooms, making Can Maia perfect for a small family or two couples.

Outside, there are peaceful shaded areas for dining or relaxing. A new guest lounge and sitting room is a welcome retreat in hot weather, and also provides an extra bathroom with shower. The new lap pool, long and graceful, is framed by the vibrant ochre tones of the surrounding walls.
