Masia Girona is a tastefully-restored historic farmhouse and fortified rectory ("Ermita") set in the countryside of Catalunya between Girona, Figueres and the exquisite medieval village of Besalu. Restoration work began in 2002 and the owners have endeavored to use traditional building materials and techniques whenever possible while still assuring modern comforts.

There are three sections to the cluster of buildings. The main house has 4 bedrooms, an open plan kitchen/dining room, a living room with fireplace, and an informal sitting / TV room. The adjacent chapel (dating from about 1200AD) has a soaring cupola and has been dramatically reconfigured as a second living/dining room with a mezzanine games room/library. Across the courtyard, the annex has two air-conditioned bedrooms with private bathrooms and terraces. Outside are well-maintained grounds with neat flowerbeds, lawns and a pond with a small island. The setting upon a slight rise in the land offers both privacy and wonderful views of the surrounding mountain ranges and countryside.

Just six minutes away is Banyoles, a relatively major village beside a large lake that hosting the 1992 Olympics rowing events. It has excellent, small restaurants, a charming central square and all services. Girona and Figueres are within 20 minutes while the beaches of the Costa Brava are only 30 minutes from the Masia. Or explore the dormant volcanoes and nature preserves of the Garrotxa region just to the west.

Sleeps up to 10 adults and 4 children in 6 bedrooms, all include en suite bathrooms with showers. Main house: Master bedroom 1 (Queen, 63") has views overlooking the garden/pool; its bathroom is only one with a tub. Bedroom 2 (Twin beds, 36", & Bunk beds); Bedroom 3 (Queen, 63"); Bedroom 4 (Double, 57"). Across the central courtyard on ground floor level: Bedroom 5 (Queen, 63") and Bedroom 6 (Twin beds, 36"); both with en suite bathrooms (showers), air conditioning, spacious terraces & magnificent views.

The former "Ermita" is now the elegant centerpiece living/ dining room with contemporary furnishings and fireplaces. Two additional living rooms are located in the open-plan kitchen/dining area, and beside the pool terrace giving flexibility and independence within larger groups. Gallery in the Ermita includes 3/4-sized snooker table and library. Large, modern chef's kitchen has an open plan and dining room. Just outside is a small kitchen garden with vegetables, fresh herbs and flowers.

Swimming pool 40'x18' with Jacuzzi & shower. Courtyard and terraces, including loggia and terrace in the tower provide many options for outdoor eating or sitting with views of the mountains and sunsets. Petanca (boules) court, outdoor table tennis; practice driving tee. Mountain bikes.

All new kitchen applicances; washer/dryer. Internet connection. TV with DVD and satellite. Central heating. Air conditioning in courtyard bedrooms; all others with fans.
