The Experience
Welcome to the Channings official site. Channings 4 star Hotel in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. To suit its location slightly away from Edinburgh city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels like a Scottish country home full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia.
One of the Channings townhouses, 14 South Learmonth Gardens, was home to Sir Ernest Shackleton, the Antarctic explorer, while he was secretary of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society between 1904 and 1910. We have named our top-floor Edinburgh hotel suites after Shackleton and his fellow adventurers, and are proud to display prints of black-and-white photographs that were taken on the expeditions, and a copy of a journey planner.
ACCOMMODATION
There are 42 Edinburgh hotel rooms at Channings in all – no two are quite the same in either layout or décor. The rooms vary in size from Petite Doubles to our Junior Suites.
The Shackleton rooms, and all of the bedrooms of our Edinburgh hotel accommodation, are a creative mix of antique and contemporary, with individual styling and quirky detail. After all every visitor to Scotland is different from the next!
DINING
Channings restaurant in Edinburgh is a delightful, neighbourhood bistro with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and is proud to have been awarded an AA Rosette.
Why not pop in with family or friends after a long day of shopping on Princes Street, and join us for lunch, dinner, afternoon tea or even a Jug of Pimms on our Sun Deck – it’s the perfect haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

If there is one thing you want your wedding to be, it’s romantic, and Channings in Edinburgh is a truly romantic venue for your very special wedding day.
You will feel calm and relaxed in Channings’ warm surroundings and our friendly and helpful staff will make sure you enjoy your wedding preparations as they understand how special this time is and how important your wedding day is to you.
The Library at Channings offers a very special and romantic venue for Edinburgh wedding ceremonies; exchange your vows in this elegant Edwardian setting. Your guests’ chairs can be positioned to create an aisle for you to walk up to meet your groom.
After the ceremony retire to the Lounge for a Champagne reception before dining in The Kingsleigh Suite, a beautiful and intimate setting for a wedding feast to remember. Alternatively if your party is larger (up to 50 guests) take exclusive use of Channings Conservatory – a stunning contemporary area which provides a bright and airily modern feel with clean lines and a summer ambience.
