The Experience

Greywalls Hotel

Uniquely situated on the edge of Muirfield championship golf course with stunning views over East Lothian and the Firth of Forth. Overlooking the world famous greens of the 9th & 18th holes, it has earned itself a reputation as ‘a golfers’ paradise’!  The surrounding East Lothian has stunning beaches, castles and plenty to explore, with Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh only 30 minutes drive away.  Offering one of the very best country house accommodations in Scotland, Greywalls’ stylish Edwardian splendour makes an ideal retreat for individuals, golfing holidays, family gatherings, weddings and corporate entertainment.

Designed by the celebrated Edwardian architect Sir Edwin Lutyens as a ‘dignified holiday home’ Greywalls was built in 1901 and still retains the charm and character for which it is renowned. A haven of peaceful tranquillity it enjoys a reputation for the excellence of its food and service. As well as the elegant drawing rooms and delightful dining areas the house has 23 en suite bedrooms. The delightful walled gardens are attributed to Gertrude Jekyll and contain a hard and grass tennis court, croquet lawn and putting green as well as borders filled with herbaceous plants.

Each bedroom at Greywalls is unique, with its own decor and antique furnishings.  Greywalls provides facilities that match those of many hotels with TV, phone and ensuite bathroom for each of the rooms.  There are a total of 23 rooms including cottage rooms located within a couple of minutes of the main building.  Most rooms enjoy uninterrupted views either over Muirfield and the Firth of Forth, or over the gardens and the gentle rolling farmland to the Lammermuir Hills.

Overlooking the 10th tee at Muirfield championship golf course our Main Dining Room at Greywalls has provided the setting for many famous and memorable dinners. The room is light and airy and will comfortably seat 20-50 people. The Original Dining Room is a smaller more intimate space, ideal for seating up to 20. It shares the same stunning views as the main dining room. The Sun Room is charming and spacious, and can be set for lunches and dinners for up to 40 people. It has a more relaxed atmosphere than the main dining rooms and a great deal of flexibility about how you choose to use it. Larger events at Greywalls can be accommodated with a marquee in our beautiful gardens.

The ground floor of the house has elegant, inter-connecting public rooms with a surprising amount of flexibility. The main hallway provides a beautiful space for drinks receptions, with the distinctive architecture echoing the external lines of the house and gardens. The library provides a comfortable area ideal for relaxing after business or pleasure and a cosy bar is the perfect place to unwind late into the evening.

With 10 golf courses within 5 miles of Greywalls this proves to be the perfect venue for anyone wishing to sample Scottish golf.  Greywalls has a long, established relationship with golf, with many golfing greats having enjoyed our hospitality during past Open championships. We can provide luxury accommodation for golfing parties up to 40 people in the main house. Smaller groups may prefer the Colonel’s house.
